ʻĀkepa is a small Hawaiian honeycreeper, and like many other honeycreepers, it is listed as an endangered species.
The ʻĀkepa is a unique bird of Hawaii that can be found on Maui and the Big Island in ʻōhia forests. Its primary diet consists of insects, and it drinks nectar from different flowers, including the Naio flower, represented in this painting.
