Nene

Inspired by my passion for endemic Hawaiian birds, I began a collection that highlights their beauty and significance. My journey started with a commission to paint the I'iwi, but I felt compelled to broaden my focus. Recently, I created a painting of the nene, the Hawaiian state bird, which holds a vital role in the island's ecosystem. The nene, recognized for its striking appearance, enjoys feasting on the berries of the ohelo 'ai, a small shrub also native to Hawaii and featured in my artwork. Through this piece, I aim to raise awareness about these unique species and the delicate environment they inhabit, encouraging others to appreciate and protect Hawaii's natural treasures.
